The Yankees announced a series of roster moves today, with a defensive player Andrew Benintende Heading to the 10-day casualty list with right wrist inflammation. Defender Stephen Floreal He was summoned in a similar move. In addition, the right hand Ryan Weber Selected for the big league club with the left Anthony Panda Dedicated to waiver.
Benintende, 28, left last night’s match after appearing to hit himself on a swing. Last night’s X-rays came back negative, but it looks like enough sickness that Yanks will keep him out of action for at least another ten days, as they try to figure out what’s going on. “I’m not sure, for example, where we thought, he might not be infected,” Boone says in video Shared by ESPN’s Marly Rivera. “So, they got a few more CT scans. I’ve been brief about it a little bit so I don’t have much for you other than what’s going on in IL but it’s a bit inconclusive right now exactly.”
Given this uncertainty, it’s hard to tell how serious this could be for the Yankees. However, even minimal absences can have an impact at this late stage of the season, with just over four weeks remaining on the regular season schedule. Acquired from the Royal Family before the trading deadline, Benintendi is having a solid season on the plate, one of his best performances in years. His .302/.371/.397 fights are 21% better than the league batting average this year, as evidenced by 121 wRC+. That’s just shy of his career best in this division, scoring 123 wRC+ again in 2018.
The Yanks will have to lay off its production for at least a week and a half, with results from ongoing testing to determine next steps. Until then, they will have to get an external blend consisting of Aaron JudgeAnd the Aaron HicksAnd the Oswaldo CabreraAnd the Marwin GonzalezAnd the Tim Lucastro and Floreal. Giancarlo Stanton It could in theory be a factor as well, although it has been used exclusively in the role of a designated hitter since returning from his own assignment in IL. Despite escaping with AL East for most of the season, the club has been in a rough slide lately, seeing their lead over Rays drop to just five games. They would sure love to have someone in that group step up and make up for Benintende’s absence in order to help keep them in the driver’s seat below the extension.
Panda, 29, was previously on the Pirates and Blue Jays earlier this year, as well as a short stint on the Mariners. He signed with the Yankees on Sunday and appeared twice in striped streaks. The first half went well enough, with Panda entering the club’s game against Auckland on Sunday by one lead and no one in the fifth. Surrender to walk trapped between two ends to finish the run. His second appearance came last night and it wasn’t very good. With the Yanks dropping 5-0 to the Rays for eighth, Banda entered with two men and faced six hitters, three of them walked, another hit, and two singles waived. That leaves with 40.50 ERAs through two-thirds of the game as a Yankee, despite 6.75 ERAs on the season overall. Despite this unfortunate age, it has a high occupational strike rate of 22.2% over the course of the year. The Yankees will place him in outright concessions or waivers in the coming days, although Panda will have the right to turn down an explicit assignment in favor of free agency, given that he was a former full-timer in his career.
As for Webber, 32, he’s bounced on and off the New York roster all year, generally doing well in brief stints with the big league club. He was first selected in June but was appointed the next day. He liquidated the concessions, elected free agency and re-signed with the club in a new minor league deal. The same cycle happened two more times, making the day the fourth time to be selected on the list, with only about a week left in the majors. He has a 1.17 ERA in 7 2/3 innings on those sporadic shows, as well as a 3.86 ERA on this year’s Triple-A. His control was excellent on both levels, as he had a 3.8% walking average in adults and a 3.0% average in minors, well below the 9.1% average for an MLB underdog this year.
Lindsey Adler from The Athletic chirp A word from Boone on the status of Benintendi IL before the moves are officially announced. MLB.com’s Brian Hoch deported Weber Panda swap before the official announcement.
