With their season on the line, the Washington Chiefs returned to Carson Wentz in Week 17. It didn’t take long for the move to backfire.
Wentz threw an interception on the Leaders’ third offensive play. Wentz was looking for him Terry McLaurin On throwing it, however Cleveland Browns noon corner Denzel Ward Undermining the tear track is an easy pick.
Washington fans didn’t appreciate it. Not only did they boo Wentz off the court, they also began cheering for backup. Taylor Hynek to enter the game.
Then Wentz did it again. With 13:14 left in the second quarter, Wentz threw a deep pass that was caught Grant Delpit. The stands once again erupted into cheers for Heincke.
That couldn’t feel too good for Wentz or Commanders coach Ron Rivera.
Wentz opened the season as the team’s starter and led the Leaders to a 2–4 record before he was injured in Week 6. Wentz missed several weeks after undergoing finger surgery, allowing Heinicke to step in as the starter. Heinicke won three of his first four starts, but was benched against San Francisco 49ers in week 16.
Wentz came in relief and was Reinstalled as the start of the commander before Sunday’s game.
The Leaders entered the competition with the No. 7 seed—the final playoff spot—in the NFC. If Washington can win on Sunday and in Week 18, they will be in the playoffs. If not, Wentz may have to leave town before the team leaves the stadium on Sunday.
