Valve announces Steam Deck OLED, says Switch OLED paved the way

Valve, responsible for series such as half life And outlettoday unveiled the Steam Deck OLED, a follow-up to its original portable device with a longer-lasting battery, faster downloads and many other features.

Talking to Washington PostValve product designer Greg Comer mentioned how Nintendo paved the way with its OLED device:

“[The Switch OLED] It definitely showed people that OLED screen resolution is generally higher. “It’s just a great product from Nintendo that makes a lot of customers around the world very happy.”

Valve clearly has a lot of Switch laying around its own desks, and while it’s not ready to reveal sales numbers just yet, it’s clear that Steam Deck has been successful enough to expand the company’s operations.

The new Steam Deck OLED comes with a 7.4-inch display that is 0.4 inches larger than the previous one and with a lower bezel. The weight of the system has also been reduced to approximately 640 grams. In contrast, the Switch OLED has a 7-inch screen and with the Joy-Con attached it weighs 420 grams.

Granted, the Switch wasn’t the first gaming portable to use an OLED panel, but its popularity certainly helped spread the word about these brighter, more colorful displays. Washington Post gaming reporter Jin Park also shared a comparison of the Switch OLED alongside Steam Deck OLED and PlayStation’s Portal.
