Big technology companies: Microsoft and Alphabet, Google's parent company, will publish their latest quarterly results after the close of trading in New York, with investors keen to see what the tech giants' artificial intelligence agendas are for next year. Both Microsoft and Alphabet are expected to post revenue jumps for the three months through December.
Nikki Haley: The US Republican presidential candidate will be in New York City for a major fundraiser hosted by financiers Stanley Druckenmiller, Ken Langone, Cliff Asness and Henry Kravis. Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, warned donors who continue to support Haley that they will be “banned” from his “MAGA camp.”
Other earnings: GM, Pfizer and UBS will report their latest earnings before the market opens. Starbucks, Mondelez, AMD and Match Group will publish results after the closing bell.
Careers: Economists expect US job openings, an indicator of labor demand, to fall to 8.75 million in December from 8.79 million in November.
Fed by: The US Federal Reserve's interest rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee will begin its two-day meeting, with a decision due on Wednesday.
Other data: The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index is expected to come in at 115 in January, up from 110.7 in December.
