True Detective: Night Country showrunner Issa Lopez responded to original series creator Nick Pizzolatto's hostile comments about the current season, saying he's “entitled” to his opinion.
True Detective Season 4 marks a new chapter for the hit HBO crime series, as it's the first without Pizzolatto as director or writer, but that hasn't stopped him from writing reviews and sharing his opinions on the series when asked. By fans on social media.
Screenshots from Instagram, posted on Reddit thread about True Detective, indicates that Pizzolatto is distancing himself from the final season. He allegedly called one of Night Country's callbacks to the beloved first season “stupid” while declaring in another comment: “I definitely had no input into this story or anything. Can't blame me.”
True Detective: Night Country creator Lopez, who directed all six episodes of the new season, brushed off the comments, saying eagle The writing team (including herself) crafted the story with a “deep love” for Pizzolatto's work, but recognized that it was “different” from previous iterations of the show.
“I think every storyteller has a very specific and unique relationship to the stories they're creating, and whatever their reactions are, they're entitled to it. That's their prerogative,” Lopez said. “I wrote this with a deep love for the work he did and love for the people who loved him. And it's rejuvenating, and it's different, and it's done with the idea of sitting around a fire, and [let’s] Have some fun, have some feelings, and have some ideas. This isn't the first time Lopez has responded to criticism surrounding True Detective's fourth season. She has previously called out the show's “bros and hardcore fans” for suspected showbombing of Night Country, and on another occasion, she joined a discussion about artificial intelligence after fans spotted a strange poster in a scene.
The first episode of True Detective: Night Country premiered on January 14, 2024. It received critical acclaim with praise given to Jodie Foster and Callie Reese, who play Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro, two tough detectives investigating the disappearance of eight men from the underworld.
