Young Moroccans love English
The British Council in Morocco commissioned an independent survey to better understand the need and hunger for the English language among the next generation in Morocco.
A survey of more than 1,200 people aged 15 to 25 on April 23 measured their conversion to English among young Moroccans.
Two-thirds of young Moroccans believe they are on the verge of translating French into Morocco’s main foreign language within 5 years.
Results
74% believe that switching to English will benefit the country’s ambitions of becoming an international business and tourism hub. They hope English will help their academic and professional aspirations.
85% of young people expect the number of young people using English to increase over the next decade.
82% of respondents have a positive relationship with English.
65% of young Moroccans think English is important compared to 47% of French.
Learning English is considered more important than Arabic, 65% and 62%.
Young people see English as a global language, science, business, the Internet … the language of the future.
