Travis Kelce is looking forward to the reboot of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” as host

Travis Kelce thinks about how to get yards in a new stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is in discussions to host a celebrity-focused reboot of the long-running game show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” It will stream on Amazon Prime Video, according to two people familiar with the matter. The deal, if signed, would mark the footballer's latest step into general entertainment following appearances on “Saturday Night Live,” the reality series “Catching Kelce” and the podcast he hosts with his brother, Jason.

Amazon Prime Video declined to make executives available for comment, and CAA, the agency representing Kelce, could not be reached for immediate comment. There are some questions, according to people familiar with the discussions, about how much commitment Kelce can make to the project if he continues to play football.

The new version of the show, originally hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy and appearing on Fox's broadcast network, will rely on celebrity guests rather than children, according to these people.

Kelsey will lead a solid ownership. “Fifth Grade” ran on Fox for three seasons starting in 2007 before moving to syndication. It returned to Fox for a fourth season, then moved in a remake to Paramount Global's Nickelodeon, where it was hosted by John Cena.

He wouldn't be the first athlete to host a game show. Michael Strahan led a modern version of “The $100,000 Pyramid” on ABC, and Peyton Manning hosted a modified version of “College Bowl” for NBC and Peacock.

Producers are no doubt hoping to leverage Kelsey's relationship with singer and musician Taylor Swift to attract new fans to any series that might come to fruition. Swift's appearances at several Chiefs' NFL games last season — including the team's appearance in Super Bowl LVIII — caught the attention of many younger consumers who may not normally be football fans.
