After a few weeks of beta testing, Apple watchOS 8.5 has been released to all Apple Watch users. Here’s what’s new in the software update.
watchOS 8.5 is another modest update to the Apple Watch, but it still brings some new features.
For example, Apple brings in A new non-binary Siri voice for US users, which is also mirrored on the Apple Watch. Not only that, but Watch OS 8.5 also adds 37 new emojis that users can take advantage of on iMessage, for example.
watchOS 8.5 also provides:
- the ability to authorize Apple TV purchases and subscriptions;
- COVID-19 vaccination cards in Apple Wallet now support EU COVID digital certificate format;
- Updates to notifications of irregular heart rhythms designed to improve the identification of atrial fibrillation. Available in the US, Chile, Hong Kong, South Africa and many more regions where the feature is available;
- Fitness + audio hints provide you with audio feedback of what was visually shown during your workouts.
Regardless, watchOS 8 updates have been pretty weak as watchOS 8.4, released on January 26, only included a fix for a bug that prevented the Apple Watch from being recharged with some third-party chargers.
Besides watchOS 8.5, Apple releases iOS 15.4 With face ID with mask support. For the beta version of macOS 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4, the company is finally making Universal Control available. Apple is also releasing tvOS 15.4 and HomePod 15.4.
All Apple Watch users, starting with the Series 3 model, can update to watchOS 8.5. If you notice any changes, let us know in the comments below or at Twitter @9to5Mac.
