The smartphone industry is currently experiencing a slump in terms of total shipments, with a two-fold decrease compared to last year. But it turns out that the high-end ($500 and above) segment has bucked the trend.
Canalys follows open The high-end segment has grown by 4.7% compared to last year. The company also put out a list of the top 15 most popular high-end phones by sale (sales to retailers).
Apple’s iPhones were expected to rank first, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14, and iPhone 13 in the first, second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. Otherwise, the iPhone 14 Plus (sixth) and iPhone 12 (eighth) round out Apple’s contributions.
Samsung has also presented six devices in this segment. It is worth noting that the Galaxy S23 Ultra landed in fifth place, surpassing the iPhone 14 Plus. The other notable entry was the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which finished in 10th place and the only foldable on the list. Finally, the Xiaomi 13 (13) and HUAWEI Mate 50 (14) were the only non-Apple or Samsung phones on this list of flagship phones.
In any case, Samsung may take heart from the fact that it beat the iPhone 14 model (albeit the iPhone 14 Plus). But the Korean company is believed to be preparing for a tough second quarter and will launch pre-Unpacked to deliver a strong Q3.
