The Texas Tech football team will have to wait a little longer to start their 2023 season opener in Wyoming.
Lightning in the area of War Memorial Stadium in Laramie forced players and fans to evacuate the stadium.
The game was scheduled to start at approximately 6:30 PM CST. According to NCAA rules, lightning delays occur when lightning is detected within eight miles of the field.

Officials will monitor the weather, and if there are no more strikes within an eight-mile radius within 30 minutes, fans and players can return to the stadium.
The delay clock is reset each time lightning is detected.
