What a start for the Texas Rangers.
A day after Jordan Montgomery led the Astros into Game 1 of the ALCS, the Rangers held on for a 5-4 thriller in Game 2 on Monday. The Rangers jumped out to a 4-0 start in the first inning and got six innings of three-run ball from Nathan Eovaldi, who bullied his way out of the fifth inning, bases-loaded, and a no-out jam without allowing a run.
The Astros cut the deficit to 5-4 on an eighth-run home run off Yordan Álvarez, his second of the day, but never tied the game or led. The series moves to Arlington on Wednesday. The Rangers, now 7-0 in the postseason, will have three home games while needing two wins to close out the series.
In the Nightcap, the Philadelphia Phillies begin the NLCS against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Philadelphia is looking to make two straight trips to the World Series, while Arizona hasn’t found itself in that position since 2007, when the Colorado Rockies swept the D-backs in the NLCS. It’s a Zac/ks battle, with Arizona’s Zach Jalen taking on Philadelphia’s Zach Wheeler.
