According to a new report, Google's upcoming Pixel 8a will get a 120Hz display, Tensor G3 display output, and wider availability worldwide as well.
Robot body Reports The Google Pixel 8a, expected to debut near or during Google I/O in May, will bring a number of notable upgrades.
The first and perhaps most user-facing would be to upgrade the display. The Pixel 8a will apparently feature a 6.1-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This is up from 90Hz on the Pixel 7a. It is also clear that the display will be brighter with a higher brightness of up to 1,400 nits while viewing HDR content.
Also regarding the display, it looks like this will be Google's first Pixel phone with display output support at launch. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro recently added this functionality with the latest Android 14 beta update.
The other big change to the hardware will be the Tensor G3, which is an expected upgrade. Google will apparently follow the same path as the Pixel 7a, using a very slightly different version of the G3 Tensor which may not be as thermally efficient in order to cut costs, but should be very similar to the version found in Google's flagship phones otherwise.
The cameras appear to be unchanged, with the same 64MP sensor used in the main camera, supported by an ultra-wide camera. This and the other details mentioned above appear to come from a “source within Google.”
Finally, the report also indicates that the Pixel 8a will be sold in more regions around the world. In addition to the current 21 countries, the Pixel 8a will be expanded to include the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. These added countries are based on your 8a's electronic warranty information.
The Pixel 8a has already been leaked on several occasions, and Google has directly confirmed that it's coming. As mentioned earlier, the device will likely be released around I/O 2024, which is set for May 14.
