The owner wants Aaron Judge with the Yankees for the rest of his life

NEW YORK — Hal Steinbrenner, the general partner to the Yankees’ manager, doesn’t want to leave any doubt about his position Aaron JudgePencil case future.

“I just conveyed that I want him to be a Yankee for the rest of his life,” Steinbrenner said at MLB owners’ meetings in New York on Tuesday. “No doubt about it. He knows it.”

The sentiment was the latest in a series of public comments from Steinbrenner indicating the team’s strong interest in returning Judge to a long-term contract. In an interview with YES Network, Steinbrenner said naming Judge the team captain in the event of a batter’s return “is something we have in mind”.

Judge has stated in the past that he would prefer to stay with the Yankees, and Steinbrenner believes that is still the case.

“I really believe [Judge] “He wants to be a Yankee,” Steinbrenner said. “I think we got a good thing here.”

Judge turned down an offer from the Yankees before Opening Day this season that would have paid him $213.5 million from 2023 through 2029. He responded with the best season of his career – hitting an American League record 62 home runs and potentially locking up AL MVP honors – and cemented his position as one of the best free agents on the market.

“The rest is up to him and his family and where they want to go from here,” Steinbrenner said. “But I assure you, we will do our best.”

While Judge will likely receive one of the largest free agent contracts, Steinbrenner said he wouldn’t stop the Yankees from spending more money in free agency.

“We have a lot of potential for other things,” Steinbrenner said.
