Apple Music Classical is a new music streaming service launched by Apple early this week in the US. As the name suggests, it is a music streaming service with exclusive classical music collection.
The new app is currently available for Apple devices, but an announcement post (Opens in a new tab) From the Cupertino tech giant, it’s also coming soon to your favorite Android devices.
Apple already offers traditional Apple Music for Android phones, with more than 100 million downloads to date. The new Classical Music app will be a new addition to the Google Play Store with a focus on classical music.
The highlight of the new service is that users who are already subscribed to Apple Music do not need to pay for the classical music streaming service, and it is completely free. It will include curated playlists, composer biographies and a “fully enhanced search” which will be able to “find any recording”.
Users will be able to find different recordings from different composers when searching for a work or various works when searching for a composer. The app will also support Spatial Audio for compatible devices.
The company further states that this new app is aimed at users seeking a more rewarding listening experience. This is undoubtedly an advantage for classical music listeners, because other music streaming services don’t have dedicated music alternatives.
Apple Music Classical contains more than 5 million tracks, including popular recordings, thousands of exclusive albums, world-famous orchestral recordings, and forgotten gems. There’s also a handpicked Editor’s Choice option similar to what we see in the Apple Music suite.
On top of that, Apple Music Classical is also said to host live performances featuring partners like the Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, and New York Philharmonic, to name a few.
Apple Music Classical is currently available wherever Apple Music works. However, some regions were excluded, such as China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan and Turkey.
While the joint press release states that “Apple Music Classical for Android is coming soon,” no date has been provided on when it will be downloaded for Android users. Previously, Apple Music for iPhone launched in June 2015, and its Android counterparts were received four months later in November. According to this timeline, we can expect Apple Music Classical in the next few months, if not sooner.
