Despite the FIA coming out in support of the “neutral” participation of Russian drivers, the British sports authority opposes its veto!
It was announced this morning that the FIA would allow Russian competitors on the condition that they do not represent their country, unlike other international sports organizations.
Later, however, Motorsport UK, which manages Motorsport in the UK, said otherwise.
Across the channel, the Russians (and Belarusians) will be banned from the competition until further notice, which will snatch Nikita Masebin from the Grand Prix in Silverstone and get him into contract trouble.
“The entire Motorsport UK community condemns Russia’s war in Ukraine and wants to express its solidarity and support to the victims of the conflict.” Dave Richards (photo above) firmly declared the head of the British Sports Authority.
“It is time for our game to show our support for the people of Ukraine and the FAU (Ukraine Automobile Federation) colleagues. He added. We took this decision in full agreement with the English government. ⁇
This decision by the British contradicts the recommendations made by the FIA and we are interested to see if other automobile clubs follow the same direction.
Mazepin may also face logistics issues for travel, with many countries refusing to access Russian passport holders.
It is now up to the Haas F1 team to decide whether to replace the driver, with Pietro Fittibaldi and Antonio Giovinaci often cited for occupying the seat initially reserved for Masebin.
