“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating. We continue to follow government guidance,” the statement read.
A royal source says the Duchess is three times immune, and will continue to follow all government guidelines and review engagements on that basis.
Charles began isolation on February 10 after he tested positive for the virus for the second time. The 73-year-old heir to the throne was forced to cancel his attendance at an event in the English city of Winchester on Thursday, according to a statement issued by his official Twitter account.
Charles was also fully vaccinated and first contracted Covid-19 in March 2020, as the global pandemic swept countries around the world. He said at the time he was first infected that he was fortunate that his symptoms were only mild, adding that he “get away with it very, very slightly.”
A royal source had met the Queen “recently”, after announcing his latest injury. The source did not say how the meeting took place recently.
When Charles married Camilla in 2005, the couple announced that she intended to be known as the “Princess Consort” even though she had the right to the title Queen. It was seen as an acknowledgment of the sensibilities around the title assigned to Charles’ first wife, Diana.
