The door closes on the possible departure of Adam Peters 49ers with the residence of Texans GM

Reports surfaced last week that the Houston Texans may be looking for a new general manager after this month’s NFL Draft.

The first potential replacement on everyone’s minds was 49ers Assistant General Manager Adam Peters to pair with Texas first year coach DeMeco Ryans.

But Houston’s current general manager, Nick Caserio, is adamant he’s not leaving to rejoin the New England Patriots.

“Honestly, I feel like Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ but I’m not leaving,” Caserio told Houston-area media during his opening remarks before discussing the NFL draft.

“There weren’t really any substantive discussions of this kind.”

Longtime Houston-based NFL reporter John McClain reported hearing a grumble from the NFL Annual Meeting that Caserio He could leave to go back to the Patriots after draft. Also, former NFL executive Michael Lombardi said there would be “organizational changes” with the Texans after the draft.

Peters would be an obvious choice to be the top executive with the Texans because of his close work with the Ryans while the men were with the 49ers.

Peters, the highest-ranking employee of general manager John Lynch, has been a candidate for GM openings in recent years. In January, he declined requests from both the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals to be interviewed by their editors. The Titans hired former 49ers player personnel manager Ran Carthon for the position.

But Caserio said. . . Not so fast.

Speaking of his possible departure, Caserio said, “I feel I have an obligation to make that statement and try to stay ahead of the curve (the story).” “I mean, I don’t think there’s really anything else to talk about or say, any question about it.

“Unfortunately, I think at this time of year there is a lot of information and a lot of topics being discussed, some more subtle than others, and I think it transcends many landscapes.”
