The report, released this week in the form of a downloadable Microsoft Excel file, includes more than 18,000 titles that Netflix says account for “99% of all viewing” on its platform, which has nearly 240 million subscribers.
The company says it will begin releasing “What We Watched” twice a year, and the inaugural edition will cover watching between January and June of 2023.
Titles are ranked based on cumulative viewing hours, rounded to the nearest 100,000 hours. The Korean psychological thriller “The Glory” ranked third with more than 622 million hours of viewing, behind the 665 hours that viewers spent watching the second season of “Ginny & Georgia.”
In a statement introducing the report, Netflix says that rankings alone are not enough to compare the popularity of two shows or movies. Instead, the letter says, “to compare titles, it’s best to use our weekly top 10 and most popular lists, which take into account showtimes and premiere dates.”
These were the most popular Netflix shows of the first half of 2023.
