His father told viewers that Alex wanted to record a longer message, but “we waited too long” and ran out of time. He adds that his son had difficulty concentrating as his health deteriorated.
Alex summoned his strength to write a farewell letter on a laptop on his deathbed, about eight hours before his death, remembering his father crying.
“He was the coolest kid anyone could ever ask for,” he said. “You mean a lot to him.”
