Taylor Swift resumed the international leg of her Eras Tour on Wednesday in Tokyo, where she shared some details about her upcoming album “The Tortured Poets Department.”
The singer-songwriter announced her 11th studio album at the Grammy Awards on February 4 after winning Best Pop Vocal Album for “Midnights.” But if she didn't take home any awards that night, she had a contingency plan for the album reveal.
“Going to the Grammy Awards, going there, I had this plan,” Swift told a crowd in Tokyo, adding that she only shared it with a few people, including producer Jack Antonoff. “But I didn't really tell a lot of other people. I thought, 'Well, if I'm lucky enough to get there and win one thing tonight, I'll do it. I'll just announce my new album.'
“And fortunately, it ended up happening,” Swift continued. “My backup plan was that I would do it tonight in Tokyo. But thanks to you and your support, I was lucky enough to win a Grammy and tell you about it on stage at the Grammys. And now we can talk about it after So, we can do something like a debrief tonight.
“The Tortured Poets Section,” which will be released on April 19, contains 16 new songs, plus a bonus track called “Manuscript.” Swift told the audience that she started working on the album immediately after her appearance on “Midnights.”
“I've been working on it for about two years,” she said. “I kept working on it throughout my U.S. tour, and when it was perfect, in my opinion — when it was good enough for you — I finished it. I'm so excited that you'll hear that soon, and we'll experience that together soon.”
