Nearly 50 years after “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” premiered, Tim Curry is gearing up for another scary role.
The veteran actor will return to the big screen with a role in the horror film “Stream,” which opens in select theaters Wednesday. It will be his first feature film role since the 2010 comedy “Burke & Hare,” though he has worked on several animated projects as a voice actor since then. He also appeared in the 2016 Fox remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
In addition to his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “Rocky Horror,” Carrey gained notoriety in the genre for his portrayal of Pennywise in the TV mini-series “Eight,” as well as roles in films such as “Legend,” “Clue,” and “Scary Movie 2.”
Michael Levy, writer, director and producer of “Stream,” said it was a dream come true to have the icon in his film.
“This has been a really hard secret to keep and to contain our excitement, especially for so long,” Levy said in a statement. “We are so happy and excited to have Tim back in the movies and back on the big screen! His magic always shines through everything he does and we are so proud to have him be a part of ‘Stream’! He is someone I have personally admired since I was a kid and it has been a highlight of my life to work with him, especially on a project that means so much to me. We can’t wait for fans to sit down and enjoy our film in theaters and hopefully with a big crowd enjoying themselves together! This is how horror movies are meant to be watched and enjoyed. ‘Stream’ is here to entertain!”
After suffering a stroke in 2012, Carey focused on vocal performance.
