Dominik Weber, Montholon’s third deputy mayor, wanted to use his linguistic knowledge to serve the islanders. This is being done from October 2023.
Every Thursday, from 5:30pm to 7pm, he invites those interested to join a group of about ten students on the first floor of the Islandize Animation Office (OAA) campus, 1 course of Halle aux Grains on the Island. -Sur-Tholon, representative commune of Mantholon.
Practice the language to restore knowledge
“These are speaking lessons. We speak English among ourselves. Some students gradually acquire knowledge of the language.” Conversations make it easy to get to know each other, exchange ideas, and relearn common words. “After several sessions, you’ll find it easier to express yourself,” the mentor tells the students, some of whom haven’t practiced since middle school.
Already after two lessons, some already express themselves easily. Others, still shy, understand better, but still do not dare to speak freely. “You should allow yourself to express yourself freely, even if the words you use are imprecise,” says the teacher, instilling confidence in her students. “Listening and speaking each week brings back what you’ve learned from the past.”
