Discover second language teaching and learn to communicate your passion for the language and its associated culture.
Whether you want to teach French or English, in Canada or internationally, you’ll get a head start by following our second language teaching program.
Throughout your training, you will design educational activities inspired by cutting-edge research and teaching methods, and have the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice during 25 hours of professional practice in a school or community setting.
Offered jointly by the Faculties of Education and Arts and managed by the Official Languages and Bilingual Institute (OLBI), this program rigorously prepares you for the teaching training required to teach in primary and secondary schools rather than as adults.
Thanks to the second language teaching program, you will be able to:
- Gain a solid knowledge of various theoretical and methodological approaches to the teaching and learning of second languages.
- Better understand the challenges of language teaching in different contexts.
- Learn to assess learners’ abilities and develop action plans to meet their needs.
- Consolidate your language skills in the language you want to teach.
- Access one of the 40 spots reserved for graduates of the Second Language Teaching program at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education in Teacher Education, which will allow you to earn a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.). Teach in elementary or secondary schools.
