Shannen Doherty said Monday that Alyssa Milano and her family sparked a “weird rift” between her and Holly Marie Combs on the set of Charmed.
Doherty, 52, speaks on her podcast Let’s be clear With her former Charmed co-star Combs, 50, playing Piper Halliwell in all 179 episodes of the series from 1998 to 2006.
Doherty played Prue Halliwell in 67 episodes of the WB show Charmed from 1998 to 2001, leaving after the third of the show’s eight seasons.
“It was really interesting,” Doherty told Combs of Milan, 50. [her] “Trying to keep you away from me,” as Combs was known before the series, and Combs stayed with her after her split from ex-husband Brian Travis Smith.
Doherty said that Milano and her mother, Lynn Milano, sought to turn Combs against her during production of the show’s second season.

At the time, both were dealing with mounting issues off-screen: the late John Thomas Doherty (who died in 2010 aged 66) was “in and out of hospital nonstop,” Doherty said.
Combs had to undergo surgery on her uterus to remove a tumor amid cancer fears, leading to production on the series being suspended.
Doherty said Milano and her mother tried to restrict her access to Combs following the medical procedure.
“I waited 24 hours after surgery, and after that it wasn’t easy for me to get in,” said Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills 90210 from 1990 to 1994. “I was told I couldn’t even get in.
“Alyssa and her mother were forbidding people from seeing you and at that time she didn’t know – I remember you texted me, ‘Dude, are you coming to see me?’”
Doherty said she was upset by the script, which she added “caused a strange rift between us that continued throughout Season 2.”
“I also felt my anger at not being allowed to come to see you and how a family turned away,” she said, adding that she “cried every night” during production of the show’s second season.
Combs said that growing up in adverse circumstances attracted her to the Milano family at the time.
Doherty said there was a “weird gap” between her and Combs, who appeared in the photo in 2016, amid production on the second season of the series.

“I think it was pretty obvious that I was raised by teenage parents and didn’t have a big family,” Combs said. “So you’re right, when a family swooped in and tried to adopt me, it was very tempting for me.
I also wanted everyone to get along, and I wanted the show to be a success. There were no angels, and there were no demons.
“We’ve all had bad days, and we’ve all had good days,” Combs added. We could all have done better at certain points, but there was a lack of awareness of the bigger, broader picture.
Doherty alluded to the tensions that occurred on the set of the fantasy drama in 2001 when she said Entertainment tonight After her exit from the series, she said, “I want to work with actors who really care and want to be there every day.”
“I don’t want to work with people who bitch and complain about their jobs and say they hate it or whatever.”
Rose McGowan continued to appear on the show in subsequent seasons, saying in her 2018 book Brave, “I wasn’t going to play Shannen, but he was still someone new for the fans to connect with…I knew I had little chance of success here.
