The big Captaincy update for Sea of Thieves has finally been released as part of Season 7, and players are discovering a big surprising benefit of becoming a ship owner: There’s a new and much faster way to move treasure from your ship that makes selling much less loot. overwrought.
The most disturbing part of playing Sea of Thieves is when you have a ship full of loot and you are in an outpost having a mind to sell everything for a fortune. In the amount of time it takes to fetch all of your treasure, one piece at a time, from your ship to the multiple merchants at the outpost, there’s a good chance a hostile crew will board your moored ship for your hard-earned steel loot and let your proud ship sink to the ocean floor.
However, Sea of Thieves players who have recently purchased their own ships are discovering that there is a new trick to drastically reduce the time it takes to sell the loot, thus avoiding the whole situation I just described. See, ship owners are given access to the new Sovereign faction of merchants, which is basically a one-stop shop for captains selling all the loot. That’s right, you don’t need to go to different dealers to sell your loot anymore, not as long as you are the owner of the ship. Even better, just above Sovereign’s storefront is a bayonet-mounted platform, which you can use to retrieve items from your ship with standard efficiency.
If you haven’t gathered exactly what this means for the new captains of the Sea of Thieves, check out this amazing demo from MashedPotatoh on Reddit:
This adds a whole new benefit to being a captain that I wasn’t quite expecting, and it’s clear that Rare built it in season seven on purpose. I can imagine no other reason to put a pair of bayonets on a raised platform other than to give nervous fellows like myself a break when trying to make money off an outpost. And to that I say grizzly, Yo-ho-hoo!
