the Atlanta BravesThe bullpen took a hit Thursday as Brian Snitker announced Raisel Iglesias will start the 2023 season on the injured list, according to a report from MLB.com’s Mark Bowman. Iglesias is dealing with “low-grade shoulder inflammation” and will be suspended from pitching for the next seven days.
The Braves acquired Iglesias from the Los Angeles Angels at the 2022 trade deadline in exchange for Jesse Chavez and Tucker Davidson. He settled into a role set up in Atlanta and allowed only one run on 26 1/3 innings to finish the regular season. With Kenley Jansen moving to Boston in free agency, Iglesias was expected to take over the lockout role.
Iglesias appeared in four games during the spring and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs in four innings. He recorded three hits and one walk. He has appeared in 406 games in his career while posting a 3.00 ERA and 3.25 VIP in 543 2/3 innings pitched.
With Iglesias down, AJ Minter is the candidate most likely to receive save opportunities, but the Braves could take more of a commission approach. She opens up another spot. Michael Tonkin is currently on the 40-man roster and is out of options. The team can also choose to bring back Nick Anderson, who was picked for Gwinnett on Monday.
