Overwatch 2 Flashpoint’s creators are interested in remaking these “fan-favorite” 2CP maps after doing the same for India.
When Overwatch 2 was revealed, an unreleased 2CP map was shown in India, but it was eventually cut as the developers made the decision to remove the attack game mode.
However, with the map’s assets already established, the developers instead decided to repurpose it for Suravasa, one of the two Flashpoint maps arriving in Season 6.

In an interview with Dexerto, lead environmental artist Daniel McGowan and lead level designer Ryan Smith explain how they redesigned India as a Flashpoint map and if they would do the same for other 2CP maps.

According to Smith, the design itself was not converted, but there was some influence from an unreleased 2CP version such as the themes around the dots.
“The only thing that was really the same was the India theme and the technical kit,” said Smith.

McGowan shared the chime, explaining how the maps for 2CP and Flashpoint are “very different” and that they needed to start from scratch when designing after the mod was scrapped.
“In terms of the art side of things, we’ve already had some really cool visuals, some really cool art collections. We had some narratives that we wanted to make sure we got our players across. We were able to repurpose a lot of that stuff as well as augment and create a lot of new stuff.” “.

As it turns out, since the developers were able to expand on the art sets and Suravasa traditions as they relate to Zenyatta, the developers say the Flashpoint incarnation came out better than the previous 2CP format.

Dexerto asked about the opportunity to rework more 2CP maps for the new Flashpoint mode, and it looks like the developers are up to the challenge.

Hanamura could come back in a big way.
“There are some fan-favorite 2CP maps that we’re always open to reusing if they require it, not just to do it, but if it makes sense for the theme, for the game. We talk about that stuff,” Smith revealed.
“We know the previous maps, especially 2CP maps, that people love. We love them too. We’re constantly thinking of ways to revisit some of that old stuff when it makes sense. This isn’t just specific to Flashpoint, other modes too, we’re always looking at It’s an ongoing conversation in the team,” McGowan added.
