One UI 6.0 supports two more audio codecs for Samsung phones

Samsung introduced several new features with the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update. The new software is currently available in beta for the Galaxy S23 series in a few countries, and is expected to reach stable form before the end of this year. With One UI 6.0, Samsung has added support for two new Bluetooth audio codecs.

One UI 6.0 supports LC3 and Opus Bluetooth audio codecs

One UI 6.0 supports LC3 and Opus audio codecs for Bluetooth wireless headphones. LC3 is part of Bluetooth LE Audio, providing higher fidelity audio at similar bit rates as the standard SBC codec. LC3 ranges from 160kbps to 345kbps compared to SBC throughput from 240kbps to 345kbps. Despite having a similar (or even lower at minimum) bit rate to SBC, the LC3 codec provides better sound quality and higher efficiency (which leads to longer battery life). The LC3 also performs much better than SBC with true wireless stereo earphones.

On the other hand, Opus is used for Spatial Audio-enabled Bluetooth headphones for an immersive audio experience. With Opus now available on Samsung’s latest One UI version, we can expect Galaxy phones and tablets to work even better with wireless earbuds that support Spatial Audio.

With two new Bluetooth audio codecs, Samsung phones will work better with a broader range of audio products such as wireless earbuds and headphones. However, Samsung still does not support the aptX Lossless, LHDC, and LLAC audio codecs. Most recent Samsung smartphones that are compatible with the upcoming One UI 6.0 update should be able to have the new Bluetooth audio codecs.
