One person was reportedly injured at Charlotte Douglas International Airport after a Frontier Airlines plane was evacuated due to a “strong odor.”
The accident occurred when Flight 1759 was scheduled to depart Wednesday evening for Orlando, Florida.
“Yesterday evening, while Flight 1759 was boarding at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a strong odor was detected throughout the aircraft. As a precaution, the captain issued an evacuation notice,” Frontier Airlines told FOX Business in a statement.
“Passengers exited the aircraft via the jet bridge and evacuation slides. The company added that initial reports indicate there was no visible smoke or fire. “All passengers will be re-accommodated on alternate flights.”
The person who evacuated the flight was taken to a local medical facility with minor injuries after suffering a fall, the Queen City News reported.
One passenger told the Queen City News they first smelled something on the plane — an Airbus A321neo — before the lights went out.
Frontier Airlines also said: “We extend our sincere apologies and concerns to those affected and are investigating the cause of the accident,” noting that the plane was carrying 226 passengers.
The Federal Aviation Administration told FOX Business that the crew “reported a smoke odor in the cabin” and that it would investigate the incident.
