With rumors swirling that Resident Evil 9 is about to be revealed, Capcom has confirmed that the next installment in the popular survival horror series is now in development.
Development will be led by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard director Koshi Nakanishi, who confirmed the new sequel while talking about the previous game’s mobile release.
“It was really hard to know what to do next. [Resident Evil 7]“But I found it, and to be honest, I feel it’s very important,” Nakanishi said. “I can’t share any details yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day when I can.”
Nakanishi has a long history with Resident Evil. In addition to Resident Evil 7, which helped revitalize the series in 2017, Nakanishi directed Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS as well as the first Resident Evil Revelations game. Nakanishi also served as a designer on Resident Evil 5.
Rumors of a possible Resident Evil 9 reveal have been circulating throughout most of 2024, though Capcom has kept it under wraps so far. In May, IGN also confirmed reports of remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica. Its most recent releases include Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village, both of which were listed as Game of the Year nominees in their respective years.
In addition to confirming a new Resident Evil game is in development, Capcom also provided details on a new Kunitsu-Gami demo and a Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster release date during its summer showcase. You can find the rest of the big games coming in 2024 here.
