NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution is now available
With the release of the new graphics driver, NVIDIA has enabled Ultra HD video support.
GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 30 GPU owners can now enjoy video content with higher image quality. This is possible thanks to a new NVIDIA technology announced last month, RTX Video Super Resolution.
RVSR was supposed to be released in February, and today that promise has already been fulfilled. On the last day of this month, NVIDIA finally released a driver that enables this technology in supported browsers, such as Chrome or Edge (not tested with other Chromium browsers). This technology will work with online content such as YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, or Hulu. It will upscale the resolution even on 5K screens.
According to NVIDIA, video upscaling will only work if it is enabled manually through the Control Panel. Users will find this option in Video > Adjust video picture settings > Optimize RTX Video. Four quality settings (1-4) can be found. The description states that Level 4 is the highest and requires more GPU resources.
NVIDIA recommends Quality Mode 1 for all RTX 30/40 GPUs, but higher quality GPUs such as the XX70 class and above will be able to play content at Level 4.
NVIDIA has promised that it will support the RTX 20 series as well, but that is not something that can be expected anytime soon. The company says the algorithm will have to be “refactored” for the RTX 20 series and that will take time.
