As Alabama’s head football coach, Nick Sabin was used to having absolute freedom to go wherever he wanted without restrictions.
As a member of the media, Sabine knows this is not the case.
The retired coach said he was suspended at SEC media day on Monday for not having his credentials in order.
“I’ve never worn a certificate in my life. I’ve always, for 17 years, been able to walk into SEC Media Day without a certificate. I had to go back to the room today to get my certificate to get in,” Sabin said Monday. I wake up (Minute 8:35).
Sabin retired from coaching after the 2023 season after one of the greatest careers in college football history. He had 291 wins, 71 losses, and 1 loss in 28 seasons as a head coach, the last 17 at Alabama. The Crimson Tide won six national titles under Sabin, giving them a record seven overall championships.
In his last 10 seasons at Alabama, Sabin’s teams finished outside the top five just once. He finished outside the top 10 just once in 16 seasons — the first time he’s taken over a program in desperate need of rebuilding.
Sabin has quickly found his footing in the media since signing with ESPN. He will join the University Match Day The schedule starts this season and will appear regularly on Pat McAfee Show and other ESPN platforms.
It’s safe to say that Sabin will keep himself as far away from the Alabama program as possible, as he tries to give Kalen DeBoer enough time to make the program his own.
