Colorado Avalanche gets a goalkeeper Alexander Georgiev From the New York Rangers to three NHL picks, the Stanley Cup champions adjust the goalkeeping standings for next season.
Rangers added the 2022 avalanche third-round picks (97 total) and fifth-round (161), as well as the third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Georgiev, 26, had a save ratio of 0.898 and 2.92 goals-to-average in 33 games last season with Rangers. He has played five years in the NHL, all with New York, and has a career .908 savings percentage and 2.94 GAA. Georgiev was dangling as available in previous seasons as Igor Shesterkin He emerged as a goalkeeper for the Rangers.
It is a restricted free agent and has arbitration rights.
The trade likely signals the end of the Stanley Cup winning goalkeeper Darcy ComberShort time with avalanche. Acquired last summer in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes after a goalkeeper Philip Grubauer Departing for the Seattle Kraken, Kuemper went 37-12-4 last season and backed an avalanche to their Stanley Cup win.
Kuemper is an unrestricted free agent and is expected to receive great contracting offers in a free-agent-free zone for veteran goalkeepers. Georgiev’s move gives avalanche low-cost goalkeeper with Pavel Francos, who earns $2 million against the salary cap. Letting Kuemper walk also gives Colorado additional flexibility in setting a salary cap as it only has 15 players on contract for next season.
