The new AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X desktop processors have finally been released. They are the first desktop processors from AMD built on the new Zen 5 architecture. Performance is on par with their 7000-series predecessors, but there have been huge improvements in terms of power efficiency. While a bigger performance boost would have been nice, the improved efficiency has huge benefits in terms of performance that can’t be overstated. Most obviously, the increased efficiency means less heat production, which means you won’t need to run your fans at ridiculously loud volumes in order to manage stable temperatures, nor will you need to spend a fortune on large heatsinks or crazy water cooling setups. It also means your gaming PC won’t be putting a huge hole in your electricity bill.
If you’re not the do-it-yourself type and would rather buy a pre-built gaming PC, there are plenty of options available that come with AMD’s new offerings already.
