“It was my honor to engage with American heroes in uniform on the ground in Korea, commanded by General Paul LaCamera, commander of US Forces Korea. During visits to the Demilitarized Zone/Joint Security Zone (DMZ/JSA) and Osan Air Base, Pelosi said in the statement” We have conveyed the gratitude of Congress and the state for national service to our military members who stand as guardians of democracy on the Korean Peninsula.”
Pelosi said the delegation also visited Seoul and praised what she described as a “strong bond” between the United States and South Korea.
“The United States and South Korea share a strong bond forged for security and forged by decades of camaraderie. Our Congressional delegation traveled to Seoul to reaffirm our cherished relationship and our shared commitment to promoting security, stability, economic growth, and democratic governance,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi said the delegation was “honored to host” a parliamentary meeting “where we reaffirmed our commitment to the US-Korea alliance” and “we were pleased to enter into a telephone meeting with Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol.”
“We thanked the President for Korea’s hospitality to 28,000 US military personnel and their families. Each member engaged in conversation with the President, highlighting areas of continued cooperation to advance the freedom and openness of the Indo-Pacific region,” Pelosi said in a statement.
Pelosi landed in Taipei on Tuesday, in an important show of support for Taiwan. Pelosi’s station in Taipei was the first time a US House speaker had visited Taiwan in 25 years. Her trip comes at a low point in US-China relations and despite the Biden administration’s warnings not to stop in Taiwan.
