KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister Najib Razak is set to face imprisonment after Malaysia’s highest court rejected his final appeal over corruption convictions related to his role in One of the biggest financial scandals in the world.
Mr. Najib 69 years old Sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2020 He was found guilty of seven counts of abuse of power, money laundering and breach of trust, and a $50 million fine. His sentence was suspended while he appeals the verdicts, which were all upheld by Malaysia’s Federal Court on Tuesday.
Mr. Najib served as the Prime Minister of the Southeast Asian country for nearly a decade until He lost the 2018 election Amid anger over scandal of state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd. , known as 1MDB. He continued to serve in Parliament after losing the elections.
Mr. Najib, who has denied any wrongdoing, faces dozens of other criminal charges that are still before the courts.
