Microsoft is planning to raise the prices of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service again in September, along with the launch of a new “standard” subscription that does not include access to original Xbox games on day one. Xbox has begun sending emails to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers warning them of the price increase to $19.99 per month starting September 12, up $3 from the current price of $16.99 per month.
PC Game Pass subscribers will also see a price increase in September, with the service going from $9.99 to $11.99 per month while maintaining access to day one titles. The price increases will hit Ultimate subscribers hard, who make up the vast majority of Game Pass subscribers, and come more than a year after the last Game Pass price hike, which raised prices by $1 to $2 per month.
Along with the price increases for Ultimate and PC Game Pass, Microsoft will also introduce a new Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription option without day one titles that will be priced at $14.99 per month for new users of the service. The current Xbox Game Pass for consoles subscription will continue for existing subscribers, but new Game Pass subscribers will not be able to select the console option starting July 10 until the new Game Pass Standard subscription is available. Microsoft says Xbox Game Pass Standard “will be available in the coming months.”
The new standard option also includes access to online multiplayer, something that wasn’t available on Xbox Game Pass for Console before. Existing Xbox Game Pass for Console subscribers will only be able to accumulate up to 13 months starting September 18, but this won’t affect existing accumulations.
It was revealed in May that Microsoft was considering raising the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate again, amid talk of adding Call of duty to the service.
