Martin Lawrence gave fans a brief update on his friend Jamie Foxx’s medical condition, while he was getting his long-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fox, 55, (born Eric Marlon Bishop), was rushed to the hospital in Atlanta last week while filming Back in Action after unspecified “medical complications.”
Lawrence, 58, was asked about his friend’s condition in an interview with additional on Thursday, revealing that he’s heard Foxx is doing well.
“Well, I hear he’s doing better… my prayers go out to him every night and only wish him well,” Lawrence began.
He added that Foxx is, “one of the best we’ve got in Hollywood, not only a great performer, but a good person”.
Fox’s 29-year-old daughter Corinne Fox first shared the news of her father’s medical condition with a statement on her Instagram last Wednesday.
“We wanted to share that, my dad, Jamie Foxx, had medical complications yesterday,” she began.
She continued, “Thankfully, because of the quick work and great care, he’s already on the road to recovery.”
We know how loved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family demands privacy during this time.
Foxx was in Atlanta filming his new Netflix movie Back in Action with Cameron Diaz when medical complications occurred.
Shortly after Foxx’s medical condition was first announced, Lawrence took to Instagram to send his best wishes to his friend.
My family and I lift you up in prayer. Lawrence said while tagging Fox.
It was reported last week that the actor was only eight days away from filming the movie, as co-star Cameron Diaz was later spotted filming in a stand-up.
It was also reported earlier this week that the actor is “steadily improving” even though he remains hospitalized and undergoing tests, though no further details were provided on his prognosis.
While Foxx and Lawrence have never worked on a film together, there were plans in 2009 to make a film featuring his character Sheneneh from the popular sitcom Martin and Foxx’s character Wanda from In Living Color, though these never materialized.
Lawrence was joined by longtime friends Tracy Morgan and Tyshana Arnold, Lynn Whitfield and Steve Harvey at the Walk of Fame party on Hollywood Boulevard on Thursday.
When asked what it was like to have such an illustrious honor, Lawrence said, ‘Well, I’m really proud. I feel very blessed and thank God for this honor and appreciation.
A star on the Walk of Fame was, he admitted, “something I’ve always wanted,” while paying homage to some of the great black comedians who have inspired him.
Richard Pryor was my first introduction to my desire to be in business and the desire to do so. Lawrence added, “He and Eddie Murphy inspired me.”
“Just following what they did allowed me to move forward with my work, so I’m very grateful and thankful,” Lawrence added.
He also paid tribute to Steve Harvey and Tracy Morgan, adding that it “means so much to me” that they joined him, adding that they, “Two people who are telling the truth…and I respect them so much.
“There is no bull with them, and so they will tell you how they feel.” They’ll tell you how they see it, and I couldn’t ask for better people to talk to.”
Lawrence is currently filming Bad Boys 4 with Will Smith, with the actor teasing, “Wait ’til you see this. It might be the biggest of them all. You gotta check it out.”
