Actor Kevin Spacey described himself as being “very helpful” in the past, in a new interview.
Speaking to Piers Morgan, the 64-year-old admitted to “crossing the line” in reference to allegations of inappropriate behavior that led to his career stalling in 2017.
The interview, which was broadcast on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored YouTube channel, included a live discussion of how Spacey views his past actions.
Asked to clarify what he meant by “crossing the line,” the two-time Oscar winner said: “Being very handsy, touching someone sexually in a way that I didn’t know at the time he didn’t want.”
In response to a question about the possibility of this being criminal behavior, Spacey said that he was “nice to people” and that he would not use the word “groping” to describe his actions.
“You want to be nice. You want to see if they respond positively,” he added.
Mr Morgan asked him: “Are you saying that it was all consensual or that it was an attempt at seduction, and that if it is repulsed, then by definition it becomes I think non-consensual, and if you use the hand, if you grope people, and they don’t want to do it.” ..”
Spacey responded: “…Then they should let you know they don’t want to do it so you can understand that it wasn’t done with their consent and stop.”
Actors Ruari Cannon and Danny Di Lillo alleged that Spacey engaged in inappropriate behavior in the documentary.
Cannon claimed that Spacey touched him inappropriately in public during a press junket during an Old Vic theater performance in 2013. Spacey said the claim was “ridiculous and never happened.”
Mr Di Lillo claimed the actor pushed his groin towards his face while sitting in a show at the same theatre. Spacey said he found the accusation “completely offensive.”
After the documentary was broadcast, a group of Hollywood stars, including Sharon Stone, Stephen Fry, and Liam Neeson, demanded that Spacey be allowed to return to acting.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Ms Stone said: “I can’t wait to see Kevin back in action. He’s a genius.”
Spacey won the Academy Award for Best Actor for American Beauty in 2000, and Best Supporting Actor for The Usual Suspects in 1995.
He was also artistic director of the Old Vic Theater in London between 2004 and 2015.
The Old Vic said in a statement that it conducted an investigation in 2017 into alleged inappropriate behavior by Spacey at the theater between 2005 and 2013. She added that no “real findings” had been made regarding the actor’s alleged misconduct, and there was no evidence of that. Formal complaints against him.
Mr. Spacey was fired while filming the Netflix series House of Cards after the first accusations against him surfaced in 2017.
His scenes from Ridley Scott’s upcoming film All the Money in the World were erased and reshot with Canadian actor Christopher Plummer taking his place.
