It's on fire.
Kara Kilmer appeared in the series finale of “Chicago Fire” on Wednesday, February 28.
Now in Season 12, the NBC show follows the lives of firefighters and paramedics working for the Chicago Fire Department at Firehouse 51, Truck Company 81, Rescue Squad Company 3, Ambulance 61, and Battalion 25.
Kilmer, who joined for season three, announced in November that she would be leaving the series after a decade in the role of paramedic Sylvie Brett. Before leaving, Sylvie will tie the knot with Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer).
“I think that's the natural conclusion for my character,” Kilmer told The Post.
“I'm kind of selfishly glad she started out as a jilted bride,” she said.
“She's left at the altar by her high school boyfriend, runs away to Chicago to start her life over, and ends up crossing the aisle from the love of her life, the most eligible bachelorette in both Chicago and Portland. I'm so grateful that the writers gave her this happy ending that everyone wanted for her.” Who has been on the journey with her for ten years. To finally let her resilience pay off and she finally get everything she's always hoped for.
On working with Jesse Spencer, 45, who left the show in 2021 but returned for guest appearances, she said: “I learned a lot from him. He is an amazing actor and an incredible leader, on screen and off as well. He always has a good attitude. He is very intentional about his work. He has a good relationship with everyone.”
“He's one of those people that he interacts with, you can stand on one side of the room and say, 'Oh, yeah, I was just attracted to Jesse Spencer.' And someone on the other side of the room will be like, 'Jesse Spencer.' I love that guy.” .'”
According to Kilmer, “everyone trusts him” during filming. The Australian native has been a fan favorite since he led the series when it debuted in 2012.
“He did a great job of maintaining control and nuance in his performance,” Kilmer told the newspaper. “You want to fight for the things he fights for. And you always have his back. And that's been true in life, too. He's a great scene partner. If you had told me when I first started working on this show that our characters would end up together, I would have said, 'Pinch me.' It's fun.” Extremely.”
Brett has been a “hopeless romantic” from the beginning. But despite its flings with Cruz [Joe Minoso],Antonio [Jon Seda] And the priest [Teddy Sears]among other things, her relationship with Casey has always stood out to her.
“I think what's so special about Matt is that he never asked her to compromise. He always brought out the best in her,” she said. “I love that they end up together, because I think they bring out the best in each other.”
Her last day on the show was their wedding, which made it seem like “one big party.”
“I got to end my time here wearing a gorgeous dress, eating lots of cake, and doing something like jamming with Jesse Spencer and the whole crew. It was a perfect ending for Sylvie and me. “One of the things I'm very grateful for is that ten years is a long time. It is an honor to have spent ten years in the first responders warehouse space. Because we work alongside real firefighters, real police officers, and real paramedics, every episode, every day. There is something very special about the people who choose to be servicemen and women.
“Our goal as actors is always to be able to capture some of the self-sacrifice, brotherhood, humor, and determination that these people embody?”
Regarding whether she would return to the show in the future, she said: “The door is wide open. I'm happy to come back anytime. 51 is known for getting into all kinds of trouble… if they need Sylvie back anytime, any day. Happy to do so. We love seeing familiar faces on this show. “We love coming home.”
“Chicago Fire” airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
