Joe Kooy claimed to be Swifty days after he mocked Taylor Swift during the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
“I don't understand Taylor [Swift] “Tiff,” he He told the Los Angeles Times In an interview published Thursday.
“What hurts me the most is that I support Taylor. I support her. I love her work. I have nieces who I bought tickets for. There is no ill intent in that joke.”
During his opening monologue as first-time host of the Golden Globes, the 52-year-old comedian attacked Swift, saying: “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.”
However, when the joke fell flat, he quickly added: “Sorry about that.”
Despite her apology, the 12-time Grammy winner was not amused by the punch as she stared at him while sipping her drink.
During his interview with the Los Angeles Times, Coy noted that the statement was meant to target the NFL and not her.
“It's like the cool thing about [Golden] “Globes is that we don't need to make ratings cuts,” he further explained.
Earlier in the week, he made a similar comment to “Entertainment Tonight,” saying he thought her NFL photos at games were “cute.”
Of course, Swift is well aware of the mixed reactions her appearances at NFL games have garnered as she supports her beloved Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Although her presence at Chiefs games brought in a whole new demographic of viewers, some NFL fans thought her presence there was too much and have blamed her for causing the Chiefs to play horribly.
However, this is far from the truth, as statistically it did the opposite.
The “Red” singer addressed her screen time at NFL games during her 2023 profile, saying, “There's a camera, like a half-mile away, and you don't know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera puts you on the stream, so I don't know if I was shown 17 times or once.
“I'm just there to support Travis,” she added.
“I have no awareness of whether I am showing too much and angering some parents, brads and chads.”
