Joe Kooy revealed his “rookie mistake” while hosting the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
In an interview with Los Angeles Times Released on Thursday, the 52-year-old comedian, whose performance at the Globes was criticized for his unacceptable jokes, responded to people who felt he threw the show's writers under the bus during His monologue.
“I love my book. I love them all and I shouted them out,” Coy said. “And I told them that was a moment where I was just getting it. I love them and can't stop talking about them in every interview.
“They got busted — man. There's a lot of great people who do rookie moves. That was a rookie move. These writers are dope and that was never my intention. They've been amazing, they've supported me and I need to make sure I fix that,” he added. And I always will.”
As the crowd of A-list celebrities only reacted to Coy's jokes during Sunday's monologue, “Easter.” “Some,” the actor quipped [jokes] “I wrote, and some other people wrote.”
“Yes, I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. You were kidding me right?” Asked. “Slow down, I wrote some of these and they're the ones you're laughing at.”
Coy spoke about the writing process to The Times, saying, “It's so crazy because the other day, we were all sitting here, and this was the first time we'd all met in person, the day before we had to deliver this monologue. One time, that's all.” What we had.”
“It was the craziest thing,” he continued. All we did was just sit down and review it. And then you know there are suggestions. I got on my stage [here at my office] I ran through it just verbally. But I was running through it [our group]Of course we'll laugh about it.”
“It's honest feedback for us but I haven't been able to play it on stage anywhere. I haven't been able to go anywhere where I can sneak this stuff in and that's what it's all about, it's working things out. So, given the circumstances, “This was what I had to go through and that’s okay,” Coy defended himself again.
Some of Coy's less impressive jokes included belittling “Barbie” down to “a movie about a plastic doll with big breasts” and acknowledging “Barbie”. Overexposure to Taylor Swift At Kansas City Chiefs games.
However, celebrities including Steve Martin and The hosts of “The View” have defended Koy against people criticizing his performance.
“So, congratulations to Joe Coy, who did the hardest gig in show business, hit and miss, was light on his feet, and now has twenty minutes of new material to stand up,” Martin concluded in a message posted on the threads.
