A plane crash of two fighter jets in India left one pilot dead and the other seriously injured.
“Two fighter jets of the Indian Air Force had an accident near Gwalior this morning. The aircraft was on a routine operational flight training mission,” said the Indian Air Force. wrote in a statement on Twitter. “One of the three pilots was fatally wounded,” he added.
“An investigation has been opened to find out the cause of the accident,” he added.

The planes crashed in an open area near civilians. The villagers heard an explosion-like sound and found parts of an airplane in a nearby field.
While local outlets initially did not report any known fatalities, the Indian Air Force reported that Wing Commander Hanumanth Rao Sarathi was mortally wounded, adding, “All air warriors and brothers stand strong with the bereaved family.”
The BBC reported that both planes were identified after they took off from Gwalior Air Base, about 30 miles east of where they crashed. Police found a plane with the pilot injured but alive in the forests of Badargarh.

The Air Force confirmed that an Air Force team reached the second plane and found a hand near one of the crash sites, according to Hindustan Times.
The BBC said Saturday’s incident was the latest in a number of incidents that the Israeli Air Force has had to deal with in the past few months.
