Olivia Munn has undergone a total hysterectomy as part of her ongoing battle with cancer, just two months after revealing she had undergone a double mastectomy.

The actress said she underwent the fifth surgery in her battle with breast cancer last month in an attempt to see more of her two-year-old son’s childhood.

I have now had a complete hysterectomy. “I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries,” Munn, 43, told Vogue in a Mother’s Day profile.

“Having a complete hysterectomy was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family.”

The Newsroom star, who is married to comedian John Mulaney, said she made the decision after being given a choice between a hysterectomy and taking anti-hormonal drugs that would have left her bedridden.

The 43-year-old revealed she has now undergone her fifth major surgery since being diagnosed with luminal B cancer in both breasts in April last year.
“Having a complete hysterectomy was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family,” she said.

“I had a real moment of panic,” she said.

‘A real collapse.’ “Because it’s so weird to be with this body your whole life, and have your period for a long time, and feel like you’re ovulating, and all of a sudden it’s gone.”

She was diagnosed in April last year just two months after she and her sister Sarah tested negative following genetic analysis that checks for 90 genes linked to cancer.

We called each other and shook hands over the phone. She revealed in March of this year that a mammogram was negative that same winter.

“Two months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she revealed.

“The biopsy showed that I had luminal B cancer in both breasts. Luminal B is an aggressive and fast-moving cancer.

“Thirty days after that biopsy, I had a double mastectomy. I went from feeling completely fine one day, to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next.

“In the past 10 months, I have had four surgeries, spent more days in bed than I can even count and learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I could have ever imagined.”

She revealed last week that a sprained ankle had added another inconvenience to her battle with cancer

She and Mulaney, 41, were able to create “two healthy embryos” after the last round of egg retrieval, although a hysterectomy meant she would not be able to have any more children.

“It’s interesting because my 33-year-old egg was amazing.” My 39 year old nest egg? “None of them worked,” she said.

“As you get older, one month can have great eggs, and the other doesn’t have a lot of eggs. Obviously the month we had at 39 wasn’t a good month.

What is luminal B breast cancer?

Only about 10 percent of breast cancer cases are luminal B

Luminal B breast cancers are faster-growing, more aggressive, and more difficult to treat than other common subtypes

But the symptoms are similar, including:

  • A lump or mass in the breast
  • Swelling in part or all of the breast
  • The appearance of dimples in the breast skin
  • Pain in the breast or nipple

“After my diagnosis, we decided to try another round of egg retrieval and hope for a good month. “John and I talked about it a lot and didn’t feel like we were done growing our family, but we didn’t know if I should have chemotherapy or radiation.”

The former Daily Show correspondent was on her feet for only a few weeks after her latest surgery before suffering an ankle injury, she revealed on Instagram last week.

She shared a short video of herself wearing light blue shorts and a matching top, with a black bracer on her left ankle.

The video – set to the theme “Curb Your Enthusiasm” – shows her augmenting her ankle, initially teasing that she suffered the injury in a more serious way.

I sprained my ankle while jumping out of a plane today. “By plane I mean I got stuck in the CVS parking lot,” she told her followers.

Munn, who shares her 2-year-old son Malcolm with Mulaney, said she was concerned about the impact her illness would have on her family.

“I had friends try to encourage me by saying, ‘Malcolm won’t remember this.’ “Don’t worry,” she said.

“But I kept thinking to myself, ‘I’ll remember this, that I missed all of these things.’”

“It’s his childhood, but it’s my motherhood, and I don’t want to miss any of those parts if I don’t have to.”
