How to change side panels in the new Gmail view

How to change side panels in the new Gmail view

When the edgeThis was mentioned by Richard Lawler Google was rolling out its new version of Gmail For the web, I decided I’d like to take a look, too. Since my Gmail page hasn’t switched yet, I clicked the gear-like settings icon in the top-right corner of my page and then the link labeled Try the new Gmail view And update my page.

As Richard wrote, the change is not drastic. There is a new color scheme that I prefer and a few other tweaks to the interface. However, the main change is the right panel – now, File two side panels.

Previously, you had a single panel that gave you access to a list of various Gmail categories and labels (such as inbox, starred, trash, etc.). By clicking on the three lines icon at the top left (also known as “hamburger”), you can modify this panel to show only icons and labels or icons. But now, Google has added another side panel that gives you instant access to several apps: Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet.

A new side panel provides access to the Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet apps.

If you feel like the side panels are too much (as I do, especially on my laptop screen), you can make the panel with the categories disappear completely by clicking the hamburger icon in the upper left corner.

Click the three parallel lines in the upper left corner to hide the Categories panel.

If you want to go to a different category or label in your Gmail, you can find it by hovering over the mail icon in the new panel.

Moving your cursor over the mail icon will bring up your category list.

Get rid of the app panel

And what if you don’t really use Google Chat or Meet? In fact, it is very easy to get rid of their icons – and this additional side panel, too:

  • Choose Settings > Personalization.
  • You will be invited to choose which apps to use in Gmail. Deselect google chat And the Google is dead and click he did.

Get rid of the New Apps panel by unchecking these two boxes.

This is it! You are now back to one familiar side panel. And just like before, the hamburger icon will simply switch between a side panel with icons and labels or just icons.

You now have the new Gmail without the Apps panel.
