Brooke Purdy He overcame an injury Thursday to lead the San Francisco 49ers to an A.F 21-13 win Above the Seattle Seahawks and the NFC West title, he is fighting through the pain of an oblique/rib injury to continue what has proven to be an incredible start to his NFL career.
Until a few hours before game time, it wasn’t even known if Purdy would be able to start.
Purdy had a questionable injury rating, and coach Kyle Shanahan said in his post-game press conference that he wasn’t sure if Purdy would be able to get through the entire game even if he took the field at first. But Bardy has proven to be both enduring and exciting.
“He’s definitely the most balanced rookie I’ve ever had. He’s been like that since he got here,” Shanahan said. “He’s been on his toes all week, even unsure of whether he’ll be able to go or not. … Under the circumstances we had no other options, we’ll see how long he can finally, and we were ready to go with it.” [backup] Josh [Johnson]. But he just got comfortable, and he got better as the game progressed, which was incredible.”
In the end, Purdy caught him and got off to first, barely showing the pain that affected him as he led his offense to four full quarters of play and victory.
“Definitely another level,” said Shanahan, “it was another level for me to just watch somebody do it.” “To just be able to play, let alone play the way he does, to protect the ball, he struggled to move a little bit at times, but…
“The team had a lot of respect for him before that game, but there is a lot of respect now.”
Purdy finished the game 17-for-26 passing for 217 yards, two touchdowns and no burning. It was his third straight game with two TD passes, making Purdy the first rookie quarterback to throw more than two TDs in three straight games since. Justin Herbert He did so in 2020, and the only 49ers rookie to achieve the feat, according to NFL research.
Additionally, with Purdy’s final passer rating at 117.0, he joined Aaron Rodgers as the only quarterbacks since at least 1950 to have a 115-plus passer rating in each of their first two starts, according to NFL research.
While some may be surprised by Birdie’s surprise appearance, the tight end is George Keitel He said after seeing the way Birdie prepared throughout the season, even before he became a starter, he wasn’t shocked by how he performed.
Kettle said on the Prime Video postgame show. “He’s had confidence ever since he entered the building, and everyone on this team has felt that. He’s been waiting for his chance, and unfortunately with all the injuries in the quarterback, he finally got his chance.”
While Purdy’s movement was limited by his injuries, he was able to complete a crucial play late in the game using his legs. After the Seahawks made it an eight-point game with 3:35 left, the 49ers offense faced a third-and-one. Purdy took the snap and rolled to the right, sliding right at the mark while catching the ball for a first down. This conversion kept the drive moving and the clock ticking, and eventually the game was over without Seattle ever getting a chance to tie it up.
“(He’s) just a smart player,” defensive end Nick Bosa said Kylie Hartung of Prime Video. “It just shows how experienced he is with someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience. But I’m proud of him, I’m so happy for him, and I’m excited to continue working with him.”
