John Wick may already be dead, and that’s exactly what Keanu Reeves asked for.
According to producer Basil Iwanyk, Reeves wanted to be “killed off for good” in the fourth film, which debuted at the box office in March and grossed a whopping $187.1 million domestically and $426.5 million worldwide.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” was the biggest success of the series, even with a budget of $100 million. And – gasp – the movie also included the biggest shock of all when the title character died at the end.
Although Winston (Ian McShane) and The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) visit John’s grave in the film, Iwanyk is still hopeful that Reeves will reprise the role again.
He told Collider there’s a “small 10 percent chance” he could make it.
He continued: “After the second, third and fourth films, making these films became extremely exhausting and physically and emotionally destroying Keanu.” “In the end, he always says, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he goes and goes for it.”
“We all want another ‘John Wick,'” he added. We don’t know what it looks like or when it will happen, but we love each other and we love this world. It will be all hands on deck trying to figure it out. Did we find out? No. And if we can’t find out, will there be one? No, of course not. “No one is going to try to disrupt it just for the sake of disrupting it.”
If Reeves decides to return one day, Iwanyk is looking forward to the story that “Speed Actor” and Stahelski eventually develop.
“We’ve all become such good friends, we all love each other so much, and we’ve all been so moved by the success of these films, both critically and commercially, that we’re all thinking to ourselves, well, how do we get the band back together in a way that’s worthy of a good story in John’s next development.” The way I describe it is they’re like Paul McCartney and John Lennon, and I’m Ringo. They’ll call me and say, ‘Okay, we’re coming.’ “This is where it shows up, and this is our story.”
