Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire announces the S2 Del Mar, the most affordable electric motorcycle to date

Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire announces the S2 Del Mar, the most affordable electric motorcycle to date

LiveWire, Harley-Davidson’s spin-off electric scooter company, has announced its most affordable model to date, the S2 Del Mar. An initial batch of Del Mar motorcycles, dubbed the Launch Edition, will retail for $17,699, while base model versions will start at $15,000.

S2 Del Mar is a medium weight motorcycle, which makes it more accessible than LiveWire One last year. It’s built on LiveWire’s Arrow platform, which includes the battery, electronics and motor, into a single unit that the company can then connect different types of models to.

Del Mar will use the S2 version of the platform, which is designed for mid-weight motorcycles, LiveWire says. However, Arrow is designed to be scalable, and future versions are expected to include a lightweight S3 design and a heavyweight S4 design.

The LiveWire targets the S2 Del Mar’s 80 horsepower (59.6 kW) and just under 440 pounds, providing a zero-to-60 mph projection of 3.5 seconds or less. LiveWire says the new motorcycle will cover approximately 100 miles of city driving.

The S2 Del Mar sits on two 19-inch Dunlop DT1 tires capable of on and off-road riding. A tracker-style handlebar in front of a thin flyscreen puts the rider upright, which LiveWire claims will allow for a “comfortable, controlled driving experience.”

The bike has already proven to be very popular with customers. A spokesperson said the booking deposits for the 100 Launch Edition versions of the S2 Del Mar have already run out, after they were grabbed in just 18 minutes. Customers can still add their name to waiting list For the S2 Del Mar standard, deliveries are expected to begin in the spring of 2023.
