Hands-on Samsung S95C and S90C QD-OLED TVs at CES 2023

Hands-on Samsung S95C and S90C QD-OLED TVs at CES 2023

Last year, Samsung entered the OLED TV market with the release of the S95B QD-OLED The model, which combines the best qualities of Quantum Dot and OLED in one package. A year later, V.I CES 2023Samsung has revealed two QD-OLED sequels, aptly named S95C and the S90C, which both bring some significant upgrades to the lineup.

We’re at CES and have the chance to experience the new S95C and S90C QD-OLED TVs firsthand. We’re sharing that experience in a new hands-on video, which you can watch below. Here’s a preview of what you can expect.

Samsung now offers 77-inch QD-OLED TVs

The first major change to Samsung’s QD-OLED TV lineup comes in the form of a larger 77-inch model. Well, two of them, to be exact, the S95C and S90C will be available in similar sizes, including 55, 65, and 77 inches.

The second is the inclusion of a second model, the S90C, which Samsung appears to have developed with the goal of making QD-OLED technology available to more customers. In other words, without Samsung revealing too many details, the S90C is designed to be a more affordable alternative to the S95C, while boasting similarly advanced features.

According to Samsung at CES 2023, the S95C and S90C both have 4K UHD resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Officially, they’re the first Samsung QD-OLED TV to support 144Hz, though the S95B model released last year is unofficially capable of that. 144 Hz through overclocking.

Samsung claims the S95C has a 0.1ms response time and AMD Freesync Premium Pro certification, though it’s unclear if the S90C has those characteristics. Likewise, the S95C is Pantone certified for color accuracy and skin tone.

Two features that differentiate the S95C from the S90C — the latter is supposed to be more affordable — are OTS Plus Sound and Samsung One Connect box support. The S90C lacks the latter feature and uses OTS Lite instead of OTS Plus.

Performance should improve with better optimization, but we’re told the new QD-OLEDs use the same Quantum Processor 4K processor as the 2022 model.

Overall, the S95C appears to be an excellent follow-up to the S95B, while the S90C could turn out to be a great addition to Samsung’s QD-OLED series if priced accordingly. Needless to say, the larger 77-inch form factor is a huge step in the right direction for both the S95C and S90C.
