Greta Gerwig has given a shout-out to writers amid the WGA’s strike Barbie Premiere in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium. Prior to the screening, the film’s director also indicated that her co-writer Noah Baumbach was not present in support of the union.
“Co-writer and co-creator of my, my partner in love and art, Noah Baumbach is not here. He strongly supports the Writers Guild of America fight.” From the first line to the last story, this movie has it like no other. It’s a Barbie girl. nothing in Barbie It happened without him, and nothing happens in Hollywood without a book.”
It was the script that drew Margot Robbie to the movie and something she didn’t expect the studio would approve of.
“The first time I read the Barbie script, my reaction was, ‘Ah! That’s so good.’” She told BAFTAs earlier this year, “What a shame it will never see the light of day. “Because they would never let us make this movie.”
At the premiere, Ruby Gerwig gives a shout out saying that she doesn’t think most of us would have been in if it wasn’t for someone like Greta at the helm, but especially Greta. What she does with her movies…she’s so smart, but she’s also really capable of delivering humor and emotion and we knew we wanted all of that in Barbie film. I can’t imagine anyone else doing that but Greta.”
“Travel junkie. Coffee lover. Incurable social media evangelist. Zombie maven.”
